Spring is here!  After months of warm hearty stews and root vegetables, it’s time to try some different fruits and vegetables. Eating seasonally may offer better tasting, more affordable produce.

Use our Seasonal Produce Guide for recipes, tips, and teaching tools that focus on springtime fruits and vegetables. Below are some tasty foods to get you started. Once you pick a few to try, check out our flavorful spring recipes, full of healthy and affordable ingredients.

  • Asparagus can be cooked in many ways – baked, grilled, boiled, steamed, microwaved and stir-fried! Before cooking, wash well and trim about an inch off the end of spears.
  • Peas are a good source of vitamins A and C. When buying fresh green peas, always look for them in the pod for the best flavor. Buy only what you need, since fresh peas only last a few days in the refrigerator.
  • Strawberries are grown in every state in the U.S. and are delicious in spring and early summer! Eat these and other berries plain, with cereal or oatmeal, or mixed into yogurt. You might even enjoy fresh sliced berries instead of syrup on pancakes or waffles.
